Curry Misses Game Against 76ers Due to Knee Injury
Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry will not participate in the game against the Philadelphia 76ers on March 15, 2023, due to a persistent right knee injury. The team has officially listed the issue as patellofemoral pain syndrome, commonly known as “runner’s knee,” which typically results in swelling and pain around the kneecap. This injury forced Curry to sit out the previous game against the Detroit Pistons, which the Warriors lost 131-124.
Curry first began experiencing discomfort following an individual workout in Minneapolis on January 24, 2023. Although he managed to play through the pain for a while, he ultimately had to rest during a game against the Minnesota Timberwolves last week. His condition worsened late in the third quarter of the match against the Pistons, where he was seen grimacing after making a floater. He subsequently limped to the locker room, where he was quickly ruled out.
Coaching and Medical Insights
After the game, Curry was spotted icing his knee and described the sensation as “super weird” and “something that I hadn’t felt before.” Despite the setback, the Warriors are listing him as day-to-day, leaving his return to play contingent on the assessments by the team’s medical staff. Steve Kerr, the Warriors’ head coach, emphasized that Curry’s return will depend on both Curry’s comfort level and the recommendations from Rick Celebrini, the team’s lead medical decision-maker.
In addition to Curry’s absence, the Warriors will also be without Jonathan Kuminga for the fifth consecutive game due to a bone bruise in his left knee. Kuminga has recently returned to practice and is nearing a return to game action, but there are ongoing discussions regarding his potential trade as the deadline approaches on Thursday.
As the Warriors prepare to face the 76ers, the impact of Curry’s injury looms large. The team will need to adapt quickly in order to navigate this challenging period, especially with their next game scheduled against the Phoenix Suns shortly after the trade deadline.
