Alex Singleton Undergoes Surgery Following Cancer Diagnosis
Denver Broncos linebacker Alex Singleton has successfully undergone surgery following a diagnosis of testicular cancer. The 31-year-old athlete revealed his diagnosis stemmed from a routine drug test conducted by the National Football League (NFL) on November 3, 2023. The test indicated elevated levels of the hormone hCG, prompting further medical evaluation.
In a post shared on X, Singleton explained that after consulting with a urologist, doctors identified signs of a testicular tumor. He promptly informed the Broncos organization, which facilitated a follow-up appointment to confirm the diagnosis and arrange for surgery. Singleton underwent the operation on November 7, 2023, just one day after contributing to the Broncos’ narrow 10-7 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders on “Thursday Night Football.”
Singleton expressed gratitude for the early detection of his cancer, stating, “Thankfully, we believe the cancer was caught early with a great prognosis for me and my family.” He noted that while he awaits additional test results, he is optimistic about returning to the field in the coming weeks.
Despite his initial hesitation to disclose his diagnosis publicly, Singleton emphasized the importance of raising awareness. “If it helps one person decide to pay closer attention to their body, then it is well worth it,” he stated. He underscored the significance of early detection and regular screenings, which can ultimately save lives.
Singleton also acknowledged the support he received throughout this challenging time, thanking his family, teammates, coaches, and fans. He highlighted his responsibilities as a husband to Sam and father to his daughter Tallyn, as well as the encouragement from his family in California. “Can’t wait to get back on the field,” he concluded.
This season, Singleton has been a key player for the Broncos, starting all ten games and recording 89 tackles, one sack, one forced fumble, and one pass deflection. This marks Singleton’s seventh season in the NFL, with four of those years spent with Denver after previously playing for the Philadelphia Eagles for three seasons. His resilience and commitment to health serve as a reminder of the importance of regular health screenings for all athletes and individuals alike.
