A variety of engaging events are set to take place in the Humboldt region this weekend, offering opportunities for nature enthusiasts and community members to come together. From guided tours to a delicious pancake breakfast, there is something for everyone.

Guided Tours of the Arcata Marsh

The Redwood Region Audubon Society will host a free guided field trip at the Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary on Saturday, March 16, from 08:30 to 11:00. Participants should bring binoculars and meet trip leader Jonny Sperling at the end of South I Street, near Klopp Lake in Arcata. The tour promises stunning views of Humboldt Bay, accessible trails, and diverse birdlife.

Additionally, the Friends of the Arcata Marsh will sponsor another free tour of the sanctuary later that day. Guests can meet leader Barbara Reisman at 14:00 in the lobby of the Arcata Marsh Interpretive Center on South G Street. This 90-minute walk will focus on the area’s rich plant life and will occur rain or shine. For further details, interested individuals can contact 707-826-2359.

Birdwatching and Brunch

Birdwatching enthusiasts can participate in a two-hour baywatch event on Sunday, March 17, at the Buhne Point overlook in King Salmon, starting at 08:00. This prime location offers expansive views of Humboldt Bay and is ideal for observing wintering ducks, gulls, and other bird species. Those who join are invited to continue their birdwatching experience while enjoying brunch at Gills by the Bay after the event. Participants will gather at the Gills by the Bay parking lot and walk to the overlook. To reserve a spot, contact Sean McAllister at [email protected] or 707-496-8790.

Community Events at Moose Lodge

On Sunday, the Moose Lodge will host a Swedish pancake breakfast from 08:30 to 11:00 at their location, 4328 Campton Road, Eureka. The cost for this delicious meal is $10, making it an affordable and enjoyable way to start the day.

The Moose Lodge continues its weekend activities with a lively dance featuring live music every Monday from 19:00 to 21:30. Admission for the dance is $9, providing a fun atmosphere for community members to unwind and socialize.

Bingo enthusiasts can join in every Tuesday at the Moose Lodge, with doors opening at 17:00. Early bird games commence at 18:00, followed by regular games at 18:30. The lodge welcomes the public, and all proceeds go back into supporting community initiatives.

Eureka Woman’s Club Program

On February 18, the Eureka Woman’s Club will hold a program at 12:30 at their clubhouse located at 1531 J Street, Eureka. Members and guests are encouraged to bring their lunches to socialize before the presentation. Dessert and beverages will be provided.
