Local Performer Celebrates History at Columbus Library Event

Karen McDowell, a local performer, will present a living history performance at the Columbus Library on February 26, 2024, at 14:00. This event will feature a biographical monologue and reenactment of a notable African American historical figure, the identity of whom will be revealed during the performance. This engaging presentation aims to educate attendees about the contributions and experiences of influential figures in African American history.

McDowell, who holds a degree in theatre arts from Limestone College, brings over three decades of experience to the stage. She retired from her role as a library assistant at Landrum Library after dedicating more than 32 years to serving the community. Known for her immersive character reenactments, McDowell effectively brings to life the stories, history, and achievements of prominent African Americans through original biographical monologues.

In her previous performances, McDowell has captivated audiences at various venues, including schools, churches, and libraries throughout the region. Notably, last year, she portrayed Harriet Tubman at the Columbus Library, garnering praise for her ability to connect with audiences and convey the historical significance of her characters.

The Polk County Public Libraries system, which includes both the Columbus Library and Saluda Library, offers a range of resources, including books, movies, music, audiobooks, and downloadable eBooks.
