Residents of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, can look forward to a vibrant array of community events from January 10 to January 21, 2024, designed to engage, entertain, and foster community spirit. Highlighted Events
On **Saturday, January 10**, the Becker County DFL will host a *Working Families Picnic* at M-State in Detroit Lakes from **1 p.m. to 3 p.m.** This family-friendly gathering will feature chili, cornbread, and even a fortune teller to prepare attendees for the upcoming precinct caucuses on **February 3**. Simultaneously, the *DLCCC Winter Wonderland Fundraiser Kickoff* will take place at the Detroit Lakes Community and Cultural Center from **3 p.m. to 6 p.m.** This celebration marks the Center’s **25th anniversary** and kickstarts its capital fundraising campaign. Attendees can enjoy indoor winter activities and explore the facility with complimentary tours available upon request. Admission is free for DLCCC members or with the purchase of a day pass.
As evening approaches, music lovers can attend the launch of the *Flight Notes* concert series at the Historic Holmes Theatre, featuring **The Imaginaries**, an American folk-rock band from Oklahoma, at **7 p.m.** This intimate concert experience allows guests to sit on stage and enjoy a curated selection of snacks and drinks. Weekend Activities
On **Sunday, January 11**, the local VFW Auxiliary will host its monthly breakfast fundraiser at VFW Post 1676 from **8 a.m. to noon**. For a **$9 donation**, attendees can enjoy a hearty meal featuring pancakes and sausage or biscuits with sausage gravy. The Callaway Lions Club will also host a pancake breakfast at the Community Center in Callaway from **8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.**, with admission based on a free will offering.
The *Lakes Area Chorale* will begin its **2026 season** with the first rehearsal on January 11 from **1 p.m. to 3 p.m.** at First Lutheran Church. The theme for this year is *Anthems and Icons*, and all singers are welcome to join without the need for auditions. Rehearsals will continue weekly until April.
For those interested in puzzles, *Bucks Mill Brewing* will host a jigsaw puzzle competition at **2 p.m.** on the same day, with registration starting at **1:30 p.m.**
As the week progresses, the Detroit Lakes Community and Cultural Center will hold a trivia event on **Monday, January 12**, at **noon**, for just **$1 per person**. Later that evening, the SheThrives-Lakes Area Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association will meet at the Detroit Lakes VFW, featuring guest speaker **Amy Stearns** from Project 412.
Recurring and Ongoing Events
Throughout the month, residents can also participate in various ongoing events. The *Indoor Farmers Market* at Bucks Mill Brewing will take place on the first Saturday of every month, offering local food and crafts until **April 4**.
The *Butterfly Odyssey* exhibition at the Becker County Museum provides an interactive experience focusing on rainforest conservation, running through **April 4**.
Additionally, the *Grace Food Pantry* at Grace Lutheran Church welcomes anyone in need every Monday through Friday from **9 a.m. to noon**, offering food and clothing assistance.
