Celebrated Music Educator Suzanne R. Rubincam Passes Away at 84

Suzanne R. Rubincam, a beloved music educator and resident of Palos Verdes Estates, California, passed away on September 28, 2025, at the age of 84. Known for her passion for music and her dedication to teaching, Suzanne left a lasting impact on her family and students alike.

Born in Kansas City, Missouri, Suzanne was raised in Evanston, Illinois, where she attended Northwestern University. It was during her college years that she met her future husband, Paul Pierre Rubincam, Jr., who captured her heart when he crashed her Debutante Ball. The couple married and relocated to California after her graduation, eventually settling in the Lunada Bay neighborhood, where they lived for over 55 years.

A Life Dedicated to Music and Family

Throughout her career, Suzanne, affectionately known as Sue or Miss Susie, dedicated herself to teaching music at Rolling Hills Country Day School. Her innovative approach brought joy to countless children, fostering their love for music through elaborate plays that showcased their talents. Her ability to inspire young minds made her a cherished figure in the community.

Outside the classroom, Suzanne enjoyed spending summers at the beach with friends at the Portuguese Bend Club, often engaging in what she called “happy-houring.” On cooler days, she immersed herself in her passion for needlepoint, creating intricate works of art that she gifted to family and friends. A talented pianist, she also took great pleasure in tending to her roses, which thrived under her care.

Family was at the heart of Suzanne’s life. She is survived by her son, Paul Richard (Rich) Rubincam, and daughter, Amy Rubincam Steadman, along with their respective spouses, Denise and Will. Her three granddaughters, Chloe Rae Rubincam, Summer Elizabeth Steadman, and Mia Christine Steadman, were a source of immense joy for her. Known as “Grammy,” she cherished her time with them, creating memories that will last a lifetime.

A Lasting Legacy of Love and Friendship

Suzanne’s relationship with her husband, Paul, was a testament to enduring love. They were known as a dynamic couple, often seen dancing together at various events. Friends and family fondly remember them as inseparable partners, and it is believed they are now dancing together once more.

Instead, the family encourages those wishing to honor her memory to consider donating to research aimed at finding a cure for Alzheimer’s disease.
