UPDATE: A homeowner in Somerset Township, Pennsylvania, shot and killed an intruder early this morning during a break-in attempt, according to Somerset County District Attorney Tom Leiden. The incident occurred at approximately 2 a.m. on Locust Street, prompting a swift response from local law enforcement.

Authorities report that the homeowner was awakened by loud banging on his kitchen window. Upon investigation, he discovered a male intruder attempting to break into the home. As the intruder allegedly broke a window and tried to enter, the homeowner warned him that he was armed, leading to a fatal confrontation where the homeowner shot the intruder in the head.

Responding officers from the Pennsylvania State Police located the intruder’s body near the back door of the residence. While the homeowner has been detained for questioning, preliminary investigations suggest that he may have acted in self-defense, with no charges currently filed against him.

District Attorney Leiden stated, “There is no ongoing threat to the public,” reassuring residents of the area. Several witnesses have been interviewed, and authorities are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Local resident JD Ross, who lives nearby, expressed his shock, saying, “Scary, that’s my reaction. I’ve lived here off and on since I was five years old. This is a nice neighborhood.” The community is grappling with the emotional aftermath of this tragic event, which has left many residents on edge.

As the investigation unfolds, authorities are expected to provide updates on the identity of the intruder once next-of-kin notifications are completed. For now, residents are urged to remain vigilant but assured that law enforcement is actively managing the situation.

Stay tuned for further developments in this ongoing investigation.
