Joe Alwyn Joins Star-Studded Cast of ‘Seance on a Wet Afternoon’
Joe Alwyn, known for his roles in Hamnet and The Brutalist, has been cast in Tomas Alfredson‘s upcoming film, Seance on a Wet Afternoon. The film is currently in production in the United Kingdom and features a notable ensemble that includes Rachel Weisz and Matthew Macfadyen.
The screenplay, penned by Jack Thorne, who previously wrote for Adolescence, revolves around Weisz’s character, Myra. She is a self-proclaimed medium who persuades her husband, Billy (played by Macfadyen), to kidnap the son of a wealthy family. Myra’s plan is to lead law enforcement to the “missing” child, seeking to validate her psychic claims.

The film is produced by Element Pictures, a renowned Irish production company, in collaboration with Astral Projection, a company founded by Weisz and British executive producer Polly Stokes. This project falls under a first-look and development deal established between Astral and Fremantle, signed in 2024.
The production team includes Robyn Slovo, Ed Guiney, and Andrew Lowe from Element Pictures, along with Stokes and Weisz from Astral Projection. Financial backing for the film comes from Film4 and Fremantle. Thorne and Macfadyen are also serving as executive producers, alongside Farhana Bhula and David Kimbangi for Film4.
FilmNation Entertainment is managing international sales for the project, while domestic rights are co-represented by UTA Independent Film Group and CAA Media Finance.
